A gladius amulet was a Roman military amulet issued to a soldier wounded in combat, much like a modern-day Purple Heart medal. The amulet also served as a protective charm for soldiers in battle. Our unique gladius features an inlay of natural coral on its handle, and the placement of the rubellite embedded into the 18k gold blade is representative of a hole traditionally placed in the center of the amulet as a symbol of a hole in the body from injury. It was also used to weave string or rope through in order to wear it around one’s neck.
This charm comes on a hinge bail that opens up and can be attached to any chain.
