This double-sided coin can be flipped within its circular frame and worn on either side. The amulet symbolizes protection and is hand carved out of lustrous 18k yellow gold featuring turquoise hoplite shields and a hand-carved lapis Hippocamp tail.

The front side of the Hippocamp Amulet features motifs drawn from an Ancient Phoenician coin depicting three Greek hoplite soldiers holding shields and sailing in a war ship with a lion’s head at the prow, and a Hippocamp swimming below above a murex shell. A Hippocamp is a sea creature of Greek mythology with a horse’s body and a fish’s tail, thought to be the adult version of a seahorse.

Hippocamps were highly respected by the Greeks and thought to have personalities similar to those of modern horses. The location and gentle nature of the Hippocamp depicts it protecting the ship and the hoplites.

The reverse side of the Hippocamp Amulet depicts a lion attacking a bull and is a statement of strength, a motif used on many coins from many different areas during ancient times.
